What is a VOA?

Since Venturing is a youth-led program, it is essential that our leadership structure above the unit is youth-inspired and youth-led. We believe that youth should organize program events, lead entertaining trainings, and provide forums to bring the crews, districts, councils, and areas together. A Venturing Officers’ Association, or VOA, consists of a team of youth officers who are supported by advisors. It provides leadership opportunities that prepare young people for their respective futures and gives them a voice to help strengthen the Venturing program.

What does the VOA do?

Venturing Officers’ Associations (VOA) provide opportunities for adventure, leadership, personal growth, and service (A-L-P-S). By doing so, they serve to model best practices in programming for local crews and to provide a program resource for Venturers and Advisors throughout the VOA’s area of operation.

VOAs provide opportunities for personal growth and leadership for their officers, just as the leaders and members of the VOA provide programming of interest to their constituents. A strong VOA has a positive correlation with strong crews. Program and training events offered by the VOA give Venturers the chance to meet other Venturers, build friendships and networks, learn from their experiences, and have fun!

The purpose of VOAs is not to hold meetings, but to provide fun and informative program opportunities for Venturers. In many ways, the VOA serves as a forum for planning and carrying out great program. The VOA officers and advisors know they have done their job well when they see that the efforts of the VOA have served to strengthen the Venturing program in their area of operation.

Our Mission Statement

Area Vision & Goals

The Area 2 Venturing Officers will strive this to make Venturing and Venturing events more accessible to everyone regardless of circumstance.

We will achieve this through a series of goals:

  • Communication: We will make information more easily accessible to Venturers through a website, increased social media output, and being transparent in our work.

  • Council Support: We will enable councils with and without VOAs to have increased access to area resources, build VOAs, and put on more events by actively planning with council officers during orientation.

  • We will encourage interaction between councils and areas by supporting all local Venturing events, facilitating communication between councils and units, and sharing all Venturing news on our area pages.

Area 2 President

Hey everyone! I'm Amy and I have the pleasure of serving as your Venturing President this term. I have been involved with Venturing for 4 years. Through the program, I have gone SCUBA diving at the bottom of the ocean, hiked the tops of mountains, and done almost everything in between. My personal vision for this term is to make these experiences more accessible for everyone, regardless of circumstance. If there is anything you have on your mind, please contact me! It's my job to help you love Venturing!

Area 2 VP of Communications

Hi! My Name is Jessica O’Neal and I joined Venturing in 2015. Since then I have been on a Philmont Trek, a Northern Tier Okpik Trek, Venturing Fest 2018, World Scout Jamboree, and am planning to go on a Sea Base trip the summer of 2020. I have participated and staffed trainings such as NAYLE and NYLT for the purpose of bringing those skills back to my fellow scouts. My goal as a VOA VicePresident is to make being in venturing a fun and impactful experience with memories that will last a lifetime!

Area 2 VP of Administration

Hi my name is Ian Pearce. I joined scouts in second grade. Some of the highlights from my scouting career have been attending Sea Base in 2016, National Scout Jamboree 2017, and having been SPL of an NYLT course in my home council. My goal throughout this term is to aid in the increased membership of Area 2 as well as the Region as a whole.

Area 2 VP of Program

Hello I am Brandon Moll and I have been in scouting since I was 5 years old. I joined venturing when I was 14 because I heard about some of the great things that they can do and from that day it has taught me what it is actually like to be a leader and to learn how to be a follower. In the recent years that I have been in venturing I have been part of many great events in my council which include starting our first venture’s officers association but most importantly it is not what you do that makes the event or the project it is the people that make it what it is.
